What is presence? How do we know where we are? In an era of mixed realities where virtual realities are becoming more and more real, we are promised new experiences. Like virtual tourism or archaeology. Or outrageous scenarios of intimacy at a distance through teledildonics. But as these technologies develop, how will we know how to distinguish the real from the unreal? Will we connect directly with something far away? And how will we know where we are?
Another event linked to this talk will take place on Friday 6th April 2pm to 5pm (venue to be confirmed) called ‘Replacing the Real: the role of artificial experience in society’. Details for this event are available on the EISF website
